As mentioned in my first Blog on the subject, the Covid-19 virus is learning to fight back, and we have not yet wrestled it to the ground. Meanwhile, new variants have been detected, one is called ‘mu.’ It has caused infections first in Columbia at the beginning of the year and has since spread rapidly to Ecuador, California and over 40 other countries.
Its mutations are linked to greater transmissibility with potential to become more resistant to vaccine-induced antibodies. While it is unlikely that 'mu' will displace the delta variant in world dominance, another variant, called C-12, has appeared in several countries in Africa, South Africa in particular, in the UK, Switzerland, Portugal, Mauritius, and New Zealand.
Despite effective vaccines, our greatest enemy may be people’s fatigue with the discipline of vigilance.
